Reflections on 2016
Holly

Much like in 2015, we continued our lives and jobs in Salt Lake City, but with one big change. For us, 2016 was the year of the baby.

Babies Unite! Emperor
David is having fun with Caleb in so many ways. We sometimes refer to Caleb as our Little Emperor (he has so many "thrones," adoring subjects, and urgent demands). So our friend Isaac joined in the fun and concocted this portrait.
Here are the results from Caleb's first science experiment. The data are pretty clear that Caleb took over Shaunda's body for most of last year. And I wouldn't be my father's son if I weren't compulsively measuring something.

We made several trips and many fond memories with friends and family across the country.
Family
In February, we met up with David's brother James, his wife, Mendi, and their two daughters at David's mom's house for her birthday.
Bryce
In April, we visited the Utah parks (Bryce pictured) with friends Britni, George, and Paulette.
Best Friends
We also toured the incredible facilities of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.

Wedding Wake surfing
In June, we traveled to Nashville for the wedding of Shaunda's friend Eyren. While in Nashville, David learned to wake surf with his friends David and Stephanie.

We live only a block from the Jordan River, which has a lovely paved trail next to it. We cannot believe such a treasure of wildlife is so close to downtown Salt Lake City, and we enjoy walking and jogging along it and never know what we are going to see:
River Stone Lantern
Turtle Gate
Fire Squirrel Frog
Fog Goat

In July, we joined most of David's family in Missouri for a reunion.
Family reunion
Shaunda is included in this picture of the third cousins because Caleb wanted to be in it even though he was still gestating. In the background is a family tree where we figured out how we are all related.
Musical Chairs
We played all sorts of silly games with the cousins.

We spent Thanksgiving in Salt Lake City with David's mom, brother Nathan, sister-in-law Lisa, and Lisa's mom, Joan.

We celebrated Christmas with Shaunda's family in Georgia.

Great Grandpa Generations
Caleb got to meet his Great-Grandfather Robert... ...bringing four generations together.
Ribbon
Part way though our time in Georgia we decided to drive home rather than fly so that Shaunda could finish moving her stuff out of her parents' attic and so Caleb could meet more of his relatives along the way.
Cousins
Caleb met David's cousin Stacey and all her family in Missouri.

Great Grandma Relates
Caleb met his Great-Grandmother Rhoda Fyrnn in Colorado. And we got snowed in with Shaunda's Uncle Wilton and Aunt Judy in Evergreen, Colorado. (We also saw Shaunda's Aunt Jenna and Uncle Doug in Denver but didn't get a picture.)
Smile
Caleb had a very merry Christmas and hopes that you did, too.
Please stay in touch. Our basement apartment is available for you to stay in when you visit us. We wish you all the best in 2017!
